Marie was nevertheless able to maintain her solo career -- in 2000, she released a best of album entitled Äntligen - Marie Fredrikssons Bästa (Finally, Marie Fredriksson's Best) -- and even find love at the peak of Roxette's success in the early '90s. In 1991, Marie met Mikael Bolyos. In 1993, she gave birth to their daughter, Inez Josefin, and married Bolyos the following year. In 1996, the couple had a son, Oscar Mikael.
But tragedy struck when, in 2002, doctors discovered that Marie had a tumour. However, the operation to remove it was a success, and with the support of friends, family and fans, Marie was back on her feet -- and so was Roxette, with a new single entitled "Opportunity Nox."
Two years later, Marie was back with brand new material, for the first time in english. Her first single from the new CD 'The Change' was '2:nd Chance'.
In 2006, Marie Fredriksson released a new CD called 'Min bäste vän' (My Best Friend). It is a cover album of Swedish songs that Marie grew up with.
That same year, a new Roxette compilation was released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Roxette - "The Roxbox", a boxed set release of old songs, rare songs, and videos.
Marie continues to work as a musical artist and as a painter.
She will also sing lead vocals on a couple of songs on her husband Mikael Bolyos' new album due out June 14th 2007.
